Egged! Surprise Gift Card

March 25th, 2017 at 11:26 pm

A few months ago my DH noticed that someone had thrown an egg at our house. We weren't sure how ong it had been there, so we guessed maybe it was some kid upset that we hadn't done anything for Halloween. (though our lights weren't on,and either of us were home.)

But this afternoon I was sitting in the office by my computer when I heard a very loud noise. ll the cas turned towards the window. I got up to look to see if I could find out what had made that noise. It sounded like an explosion.

Someone had egged our house again!

When DH got up I told him about it, and he decided to look around to see any other mischief. He found a third egg on the same wall - dried.

Apparently some kid is using our house for target practice.

A few days ago I noticed tissues all over the yard. I picked up all of them. Glad I did since i rained today! I also found a ruined smartphone and a good bit of other trash. I just don't walk in the yard much I guess.

I guess this is what you expect living ac from a middle school?

After church today I dropped off two prescriptions at a local grocery store to get $50 in gift cards for transferring.

As I walked out, a young man asked me if I'd do a survey for a research paper he was writing - for a $10 gift card. So I did the survey (on GMO) and got a gift card!

Now I have $60 in gift cards for this store. Good thing too, since we've overspent the grocery budget already!

Ick! Sorry about the egging. That's terrible. I do like gift cards though. Smile

Thanks. I posted on Nextdoor about it, and a neighbor suggested I should contact the police about it. I'm not sure though - it seems like not something worthy of bothering them about. What do you think?? Never been egged before (til this house)

I understand the hesitation. If it were me I might wait and see if it happens again. I'm not one to bother police too quickly unless absolute danger, or theft. But it is vandalism! I just don't know what they can do unless you have surveillance or a license plate number. Very wise to let neighbors know...as others may be in the same situation.

That's what I was thinking too. DH said maybe we need to put up some kind of camera - maybe even one of those fake ones?

A fake one and a sign might help. May be worth a try. I have a sign for a security company in our yard because the owners of our home had a security system, but we don't have it active. I do think it may help.

Will have to look into that. Might help with the trash problem too.

You can put up a sign near the place it is being egged that says "Smile, you're on camera."

Yuck, what a waste of a perfectly good egg. I'd be tempted to call the police just informally. Vandalism can sometimes escalate. Nice surprise on the gift card!

Between the egging and the trash - the school can't do much due to it being off school property, but you could make them aware. They might even do a school reminder to the kids to not do those types of things?

Also - make sure to clean the egg as soon as possible as it can have an effect on paint. And keep an eye out for your cars in case they also get egged.

There might not be much that you can do, but its frustrating and if it continues, contacting the police would help in case it escalates in some manner.

DH was thinking of maybe just calling the police to not make a report or anything, but let them know about the incident.

Our house is brick so no paint to worry about, and DHs cars in the driveway ... well, dried egg wouldn't hurt their appearance much. Smile Mine stays in he garage.

I don't understand the mentality of damaging other people's property. Sorry that happened.

Glad you got that gift card! Yay you!

Thanks Rob. I don't get it either.
