Financials More Or Less

June 18th, 2015 at 12:52 am

I asked today about having a direct deposit split between two banks and was told that the city isn't set up for that. (I had that capability when I taught ten years ago .. could do it myself on our website.)

So that means I'll have to have my whole paycheck go to Nationwide for a few months. Then do a quick withdrawal. Good thing I have a month's buffer in my checking account at all times. Smile

I've also done some thinking about the 8 debits per month to avoid the $8 checking account fee. I think that will be a total hassle and would probably end up making me spend more than $8 each month that I might not have otherwise spent. So .. considering that the bonus is $200 ... I'm going to eat the $8 fee until I get the reward - probably total $24 - $40.

Got Firefox working again properly! I was beginning to think I was in need of a new computer ...

I did something called "Refresh Firefox" that got rid of all my add ons (Adblock, Swagbutton, etc, etc.) It's now running super silky smooth! I'm just going to deal with the ads for now I think.

Spending:

$9 .... at Walgreen's. Sigh. So tired today all I wanted was some chocolate and soda. Kind of overdid it.

Dollar General - found out where one is which is near another store I like to go to once in awhile. I might try to get over there on Sunday - also want to go to Sear's to see if I can replace my dress shoes. They are beyond bad.

I think I did a refresh type of thing with Chrome not too long ago. It got rid of Swagbucks and Adblock too. I can't remember now what issue I was having, but it is now working fine and I added Swagbucks and Adblock back on.

CCF - Funny thing is, I can't even open Chrome on my computer anymore. I don't use it, but whenever NE is here using my computer, he uses it. (That way he doesn't have to worry about accidentally closing my browser.)

I might add back adblock .. the ads are super annoying on SA.

Is there a minimum $ amount per debit that you need to reach your 8 transactions? If not, couldn't you use that debit card for 2 small-ish transactions per week for 4 weeks? How long do you have to keep that account open?

    Susan,

It looks like the minimum time is 90 days + 2 weeks for the credit to appear. As far as the transactions, there is no minimum amount. I'm just afraid that I'll use the debit transactions as an excuse to make 8 small purchases a month ... and most "small" purchases would be gum or ... candy. So I'd still be essentially wasting $8+ a month til I could close the account.

Laura I once had to do 6 transactions in a month. I just used it when I went shopping and broke my grocery order into 3 or 4 separate orders. I only did this when it was slow at the store but it counted. Something to consider?

    Kiki,

July - November I'm going to also be working on spend $500/month with Discover for a $75 bonus. If I use the debit card to do my grocery shopping with, that'd be at least $100/month I can't put towards the Discover promo. Some of those months I should easily be able to do it (buying tickets for Thanksgiving, paying for August trip expenses, car registration renewal, 6 month car insurance ... etc.) but other months I may make it by the skin of my teeth ... with the grocery money included.

I guess I can try and see if it is possible to do it without spending extra or sabotaging the other deal I'm going for.

So, in order to avoid the fee, you just have to use your debit card 8 times? So if you used it twice a week for four weeks you wouldn't be charged $8? What about just using it for treats purchases or something?

Never mind, I just read your other comment about wasting $8 to save $8.
