Updates

April 19th, 2014 at 08:17 pm

It's been a little bit since I last posted. Five weeks left of the school year, and 5 1/2 weeks til moving day!

NE was here visiting a week ago during Spring Break. One of the days we visited Bluewater Lake and Canyon de Shelly (de shay.) We got ourselves royally lost within in Bluewater Lake park - lots of dirt roads that all looked alike. What took us five minutes to go from the gate to the lake, took us nearly 40 minutes to find the gate again! While there though we found a flock of 16 Pelicans. At one point they flew up out of the water and preceded to entertain us for at least 15 minutes flying different formations. So cool!

We only took in the South Rim at Canyon de Shelly - but that by itself took a good two hours, and was well worth it. NE was really tired out by the last lookover stop, so I did that one by myself ... and ended up getting royally lost on the way back to the car. Heading out to the overlook took me maybe 5 minutes, but heading back took me over 25 minutes. I was SO thankful to see NE and the car!!

Here's some photos NE and I took (NE is a lizard hunter - hunts them for photos only.)

This is the lizard NE caught - I think he said it was a side winder??

I cashed out again on GymPact last week - $10 - and was paid within a day. It seems as though they've got their act together again. I'll be able to cash out again by Tuesday or Wednesday of this coming week.

On Thursday I got another book review assignment - which I turned in Friday afternoon, and already received a $25 payment. Smile

I made the $500 spending requirement for the BofA Cash Card, and have reserved my rental truck/car dolly with the Cap One Quicksilver card - which also easily meets the $500 spending requirement. So within the next month or two, I'll be receiving $200 in cash awards from those two cards. I'll probably cancel the Quicksilver card because between my Pen Fed card (gas 5%), BofA card (2% groceries +10% bonus when direct deposit cash awards into BofA account) and my Swagbucks card (1.5 % on everything) - the Quicksilver would be superfluous. I also really need to cancel my Discover and Amazon cards. I need to keep my Chase one though, as it is my oldest. Can you say - FT you have too many credit cards for one person!!

Yesterday I had Good Friday off, so I decided to get my title transfer taken care of. Yikes. I got to the MVD (DMV) around 12:30 p.m. and was finally called around 3:37 p.m. While I was waiting I did two things - read the book for my book review and talked with a Native American woman who had been waiting longer than I had to do the same thing! I had unfortunately let my registration lapse (it expired in December ... ooops) so I had to pay a fine for that to renew it, plus the cost of the title transfer -- so a total of $78. I put it on my BofA card, which finished up the $500 spending.

So now my car is totally in my name, and is totally legal to be on the road. Smile

I've sold a few more items on eBay, although that's kind of been slow going the last few weeks.

---
I have Monday off as well, so plan to make Sunday and Monday packing and decluttering days. I am getting down to the wire!!

On Monday I also want to check with the PO about getting a PO box in NE - see if it's possible to do without being there in person. That way I can have my mail forwarded there starting the week I move.

Last Friday I had either a filling fall out, or a tooth chip - not sure which. I have insurance coverage through the end of June, so will probably wait to do anything about it til I'm in NE. It's a nuisance, but not painful.

Speaking of insurance, I need to look into how I can get onto Obamacare. I'm assuming that I'd qualify for the "life change" qualification to apply/start outside of the initial signup process. (going from having insurance w/job to not having insurance)

I finished season 3 of Dowton Abbey yesterday. OMW!! I am SO tempted to pay for season 4 to find out what happens next. Poor Mary. Frown I have another show my aunt recommended to me though - Mr. Selfridge. The first season is on Amazon Prime, so I'll watch that before I decide whether or not to give in to temptation. Smile

I am now into my second month Netflix'less. I am more than getting by with Amazon Prime and my "free" Hulu Plus subscription (free through Bing rewards! -- in fact, right now they are running a promotion where you can get a free month of Hulu for only 300 points!!! I've already cashed in on one, and will be cashing in for another one probably Monday.)

Not much else I can think of right now.

The USPS website says you can do it online, but you have to create an account online.

Thank you for the photos. We were in the area last year and you've reminded us of our nearly perfect trip.

I hope the penalty for late registration was minor. Will you be required to register and get new plates for your car when you move? I suggest you note the dates on your cell's calendar to avoid penalties in the future. Moving is so much work and only 12 done since everything needs unpacking and a place assigned at your new home. I hope it's ok to mention when we did provincial moves we designated boxes 1-4. Boxes numbered 4 contained those occasional use/once a year, seasonal stuff.

Boxes #3 contained day-to-day stuff like clothes, bedding, towels, placemats, table cloth, that get an assigned place, fast unpack & placement. #2 boxes were kitchenware & bthrm supplies soap, shampoo etc. #1 boxes were last packed, 1st unpacked, needed immediately with tp, light bulbs, paper towels, cleaning-up kit, important documents/paperwork, the stuff that could go in the car with you.

CLL - Thanks, I'll have to take a look at that!

Snafu - The fine was 75% of the renewal cost - or $29.75. When I move to NE I'll have to get new everything, and will definitely be making note of it on my iPhone calendar. I do that for so many things - not really sure why I didn't do it for the registration thing.

Most of my stuff will be going into storage at first - so my goal is to put everything I'll need from day to day in my suitcase set. I'll be staying at NEs until I'm able to get into a place of my own, so I'll mostly only need clothing, toiletries, and my computer. Smile

Glad to hear things are going well. It is hard to believe the school year is winding down. So glad you didn't get lost out there in the desert!

    Photos are beautiful!

Let us know how Mr. Selfridge is. I haven't seen it yet and am not sure about it. I do love Downton Abbey.

I also discovered The Bletchley Circle about a group of women friends who were part of the code breaking circle in England during WWII and their lives coming together after the war. The first season (4 episodes) were a little graphic for me in terms of the mystery they solved but the scenes, acting, costumes, back ground were very interesting and very true to the lives of the women after WWII. Their special regarding the show was also interesting to watch. I caught it in PBS but just recently saw the 2nd season listed in iTunes for 6.99. Pretty good price since I don't really buy anything. I'd recommend it!

Good luck with the packing and moving!

    Thanks Kiki Smile
I'll let you know about Mr. Selfridge - probably going to watch first episode tonight. The Bletchley Circle sounds very interesting - will have to see if its on Prime.

Me too CCF Smile NE was wondering if I'd fallen over the 7k foot drop ... (there was a sign posted near the start of the semi-marked trail to the flat ledge that said "Parents keep control of your children and animals. 7000 foot drop.")

I've watched Mr. Selfridge, and while I will probably catch up on old episodes I've missed, I did not find it nearly as engaging as Downton Abbey. I don't love the characters.

I watched Season 1 of Mr. Selfridge this weekend, and though I liked it, I definitely wasn't hooked like I am on DA. I may or may not watch Season 2 when it's available.

    Loved seeing the pics..Thanks!
My coworker recommended DAbby and Mr Selfridge. I like both , but agree that DAbby is a bit better. Smile

Glad you liked the pics! Smile There were some other ones that I really liked, but these were the ones NE emailed me (we used his camera - I don't have one, other than my phone.)

I'm hoping Season 4 of DA becomes available for Prime by October - because that's when my Prime membership expires. I just don't see myself paying $99 for Prime ... especially when I'm not ordering a lot of books for a library.

Does your library have Dowton's DVDs? Selfridges isn't nearly as interesting story line but is relatively, historically correct. Harry Selfridge was an American who opened an enormous department store on Oxford Street in London. He wasn't well received by snobbish British aristocracy so you'll see an American response. The costumes are the best part if you're interested in apparel and pre WWI home decor.

    Snafu -

I don't know - that's a good idea to check and see if the library in my new hometown have any of them. If they have the first three seasons, it stands to reason they'd get number 4 too! Smile
Yes, my grandma was telling me that she remembers the hoopla about Selfridges, which is part of what made it interesting to her.

You can reserve a PO box online, but you have to take your confirmation in person (and show ID) to the physical location to open the box. I don't think you can do the whole thing online. I don't think they want people to be able to open PO boxes remotely without showing ID.

  15. FrugalTexan75 Says:
    1398298798

JAT - That makes sense that you can't do the whole thing online. I haven't looked into it yet, but am planning on it soon.

I don't like Mr Selfridge either. I thought it was because I couldn't afford anything in his store!

LOL MEC Smile I doubt I could afford anything in it either. Smile
