Small flakes - Cleaning Cupboard finds

March 29th, 2014 at 07:40 pm

I cashed out for $5 AGC from irazoo yesterday (takes forever to get - 3000 points!) Then today I made the 50k points on acheivemint . com to cash out for a $50 Visa card - but decided to go for the next level of 100k with a 2k bonus. I think I should be able to get there by late October. That'd be a good time of year to have a $100 coming my way. Smile

---
I am a bit frustrated with GymPact right now. In the month of March I have cashed out twice for my $10 rewards. Usually, the cash payment is in my paypal account within two days or less. It's now been three weeks for the first one, and four days for the second one. They do now have a message saying that it could take up to 7 business days ... but for the first one it's been WAY more than 7 business days.

I've cashed out in the last 15 months or so with them multiple times with no problem. Until now. I really am hoping that this doesn't become par for course, because this is a great way to make a little extra money with just a little bit of effort beyond what I'd do anyway (taking pictures of fruit/veggies I eat for my veggie pact.)

---
I started on the way to big G yesterday after school, and had just gotten on the highway, when I realized I didn't have any money with me. Ooops. So I turned around and went home. I decided to just not go grocery shopping.

I thought I would go today after church, but ended up not going to church (overslept!) Instead, I started cleaning out my cupboard - something I've needed to do badly for a long time, as well as something that will be good before I move.

I put pretty much everything on my kitchen table (and some on my chairs in boxes.) So, now my goal is to eat from the table/boxes. The only groceries I'll buy are perishables such as bananas. I'd like to get my pantry items down to one box worth before I move.

I may post a list of everything I have in my pantry to see if y'all can help me come up with the best ways to use the stuff up quickly. Smile

I had to get up on a chair to reach to the back of my top cupboard. As I was doing that, you'll never guess what I found! The scanner that I turned house and car over looking for the past few months! It was in the little groove on the top of the cupboards (where I have several empty appliance boxes stored.) So I can now send it back to them. Smile (I just knew that I wouldn't have missed it being in the throw out pile when my mom was here!)

I thought you would probably find that scanner when you moved...nearly everything turns up in the packing process, although in the unpacking it can get 'lost' again.

NE in a week, optimal time for a menu plan; Bkfst/ take-away lunch/ special touch Dinner, based on using what's at hand. Do you have/can you borrow a crock pot/slow cooker so that a meals can cook while the two of you are out, enjoying the day. Happy to help with suggestions if you list ingredientyou want to use up.

Boxes retained: leave a tiny sticker on the bottom of appliances whose box has been retained, easy to match if selling or packing.

Great finding scanner, I hope you'll pack and return PDQ, aggro over

CCF - I was really hoping that would happen too, although I couldn't think of a place I *hadn't* looked. Guess top of cupboard didn't occur to me. Big Grin

    Snafu -
I'm planning on getting it sent out ASAP! Smile
I do have a crockpot, although its not very usable (I really need to throw it out. It was part of the items that got flooded in my storage unit 3 1/2 years ago.) Some of what I have NE will eat. I know he's looking forward to chicken fried steak at a local restaurant (he's obviously not vegetarian Big Grin )

One of the things I found is a huge bag of pinto beans. I think I bought it when I was still hoping my crockpot would work ... Not sure if they're even any good anymore. (at least a year old, if not more) I do have a pressure cooker - never used it, brand new (I think its the kind you can use in the microwave?? not really sure how to use it.)

    Yay! You found it!

Good luck with the cupboard clean-out.

    Thanks Smile
Right now in the oven I have a dish with frozen cheese ravioli, a can of diced tomatoes w/garlic and herbs, and a can of mushrooms. That will be supper tonight, and probably lunch tomorrow. Smile 1 item used from freezer, 2 from cupboard.

Finding a lost item-- just another of life's little triumphs. Wink

Did you do a happy dance still standing on the chair? I suspect year-old beans are going to be very tough.

    Joan - Sure is. Smile
MEC - Yep, sure did. Big Grin That's what I'm thinking too about the beans. Probably the bin is the best place for them.

No, year old beans is not too old, in my opinion. Beans are one of the worlds storage foods and will last for _many_ years. In a low humidity storage environment they may be extra dry and need a longer soaking time and perhaps a longer, lower temp cooking time.

Why not experiment with both [possible problematic] crock pot and dry pinto beans? On-line recipe sites like www.cooks.com have dozens of pinto bean recipes that all seem to start...'soak beans...' and depending on what you like and what's at hand go on to describe Pinto salads, soups, dips, casseroles, Chili, Hotcakes, cakes, pies & fudge. All need long, slow cooking weather stove top or oven following soaking. If you're willing to try out ethnic dishes, pinto beans styles can be Italian, Spanish, Cajun, Mexican, Texas etc.

The idea of using pinto beans as the base for Mock Pecan Tarts or Cortez Fudge is something I plan to try next Christmas season.

Glad you found the scanner! Yay!

Sounds like you will be saving money and being creative with your cupboard finds.

Thanks Joan/Snafu - Maybe I will try out those pinto beans. It's a *really* big bag though (5lbs I think) so maybe won't try it before moving (have so much other stuff to use up.)

    Thanks Rob! Trying Smile

Wow! I'm so glad you found the scanner! I love it when lost items turn up!

When I'm eating out of my pantry I find recipes just by entering ingredients in the search engine. Pretty amazing what comes up!
