Job interview!

November 5th, 2009 at 08:58 am

I have an interview scheduled for Friday at 1:30!

It would be awesome to get this - no more late or bounced paychecks! ( still no paycheck for the 2nd - supposedly will get it tomorrow. )

Good luck! Can you rehearse possible interview questions with someone? It will give you more confidence going in that you can handle tossed your way.

    Thanks everyone!

The one thing I'm a little worried about - straight off I'm going to be taking dec 22 - Jan 3 off - non refundable tickets. Then next semester one of the classes I'm taking has two projects which have to be done during the school day. The class I'm supposed to take this summer requires two weekdays , and I'll be moving again in May ...

With my current job, none of this is a big deal. But taking two weeks off barely a month in???

Not sure how to bring previous plans like that up.

When I took my job a year ago, I already had plans to go back and see granddaughter for a week and I told them right up front. They hired me anyway. I worked 3 weeks and took a week off.

However, this is a new economy and you may need to weigh how much you want to take this trip. My MD passed up a job when granddaughter was born (her niece) and she is still trying to find a permanent position 14 months later.

Good luck. Hopefully, your employer would be understanding if you tell them in advance of your previous "commitments." I would wait until you have a solid offer.

Thanks homebody - one way or the other I'll still have a job. The trip coming up soon tickets were paid for already, and were a gift.

Analise, I think that's a good idea to wait until I have a solid offer, unless of course they ask me up front.

Break a leg! Yeah, sure, tell them someone told you to bring a baseball bat and threaten to hurt somebody if they don't hire you. Big Grin

    BA - LOL!!

Hey, Laura, have you ever considered doing tutoring on the side? or like someone mentioned on here, working with home-bound children to keep them caught up on schoolwork?

  17. frugaltexan75 Says:

    Lux,

I have thought about tutoring on the side - my mom even has made that her whole income! I guess I just don't feel enough confidence in being able to tutor someone without some kind of set out program. I know that it is probably a pretty silly fear, considering that when I was teaching, I often devised my own program to teach the material ... but it is what it is. Something I probably need to get over.

The idea of teaching homebound kids - that does sound appealing. I wonder how I could get into that?? Will have to do some research. Thanks for the idea!

I think the one I was reading mentioned getting with the local schoolboard / education center to get those jobs.

Could you take on little kids at first to tutor, see how it goes? At any rate around here they are advertising on craigslist for tutors at retail tutoring places, so I'm assuming at places such as those? ...there would be a set methodology they try to strive for.

Mastery always worked for my kids when homeschooling. "Do not pass go until you get this."

  21. frugaltexan75 Says:

Ok, thanks. I'll have to look into that.

I actually have tried to get some tutoring jobs via CL but no luck. I would definitely go with the younger ones - my comfort zone. Unfortunately the real need seem to be for people who do math/science tutoring. Math up to about 5th grade, I'm good for. After that, when it gets too much into algebra, etc. Uck.
