I Think I'm Settled Now - Awesome Music Video

April 7th, 2009 at 03:44 am

I found out today that one of the other gym workers had given notice. E told me that he'd prefer to not have to hire someone new, so he gave me first choice of hours. So, I now have 36 hours a week at min wage. If I ever get the UI, that should be around $2000 - $2400.

If you remember my bare bones budget from before, 36 hours at the gym gives me about $150 - 200/month deficit. With the UI money, that means I can hold off from touching savings (for living expenses at least) for a good 10 months.

I've decided to put the word out to my pastor that I'd like to find a room to rent starting in September/October. I plan to offer $200/mo + 10 hours babysitting/tutoring or $300/mo. All I need is a room, internet access, kitchen privs, and laundry room privs 2x/month.

If that's not possible, then I will try for the option of finding a roommate and do a two-bedroom - that would work out to roughly $400/mo.

With working nearly full time at the gym, I will be able to take a full load of classes, time-wise at least. It remains to be seen how much I should do financially wise.

This is a really fantastic video with Julie Andrews singing a song from Sound of Music. It is just totally beautiful.

And on my Storytime blog, my most recent post is about a beautiful story of how a little girl grew up and found a way to make the world a more beautiful place:

I'd love any feedback on either.

That was really nice of E to offer you first dibs, can you collect the unemployment if you are working. As far a a room to rent some times you can team up with responsible college kids, that may be an option
    Feel better

I am sorry, but, due to granny's illness, my workload, and the grandbaby being born, I haven't been able until now to start reading blogs again. What University are you attending? Maybe there is a couple that would like you to board with them. I was offering board with my Mennonite boss and his family when I worked for them.

    Amber,

Technically, yes, I think I still could collect unemployment even working 36 hours a week, because what I'll make is just shy of 100% of my weekly benefit. You are allowed to make up to 125% and still receive something. However, it also means doing at least 5 job search actions each week, and well, the pickings are getting really slim, plus I think I'll just stick with this unless something MUCH better comes along (like twice the pay + benefits.) Smile So after this week, I won't be attempting to claim any NEW benefits - will however continue fussing till I get the benefits owed me!

    Sicily,
I'll be attending University of North Texas as an online student (if I'm accepted that is) to get my Master's in Library Sciences, with certification to be a School Librarian.

I'd like to find a room in Plano near where I work, to save gas and tolls, or stay in my same area. Eventually, I hope to get a part time job at the actual university campus in their library - so then I'd need to move to Denton (or nearer than Plano.)

Please forgive me for being dense, but how do you get UI if you have a job?

Edited to add: Oh, oops, I had this tab open from yesterday and didn't read the new posts Smile

    No problem Smile

In case you're still wondering. Smile In Texas at least, you are allowed to make up to 125% of your weekly UI amount. The UI amount is roughly 66% of what you made at the job you were laid off from or the max amount.

So, that means I can work my minimum wage job - up to about 38 hours, and still receive *some* UI. It isn't just to help people who have NO job whatsoever, but also to help those who are underemployed. I would actually be better off financially to just take the UI and not work the min wage job - but not by that much really - not enough to go through all the loops and hassles.

I was going to be at The North Texas Book festival in Denton the weekend of the 17th, but had to cancel, due to granny's illness and hospitalization.
