Hi everyone. It's been a busy week here in the desert. NE and I have spent hours and hours talking on Skype (no thanks to my two year old computer that freezes up, or the Internet that drops the connection...) spent a few hours on FaceTime with my brother too (talking about who else but NE and also *the* electric car stock..)
8th grade graduation was Thursday night, and Preschool on Friday morning. More drama of course. It really makes me sad/sick to my stomach. It should *only* be about the kids - not about protesting not getting paid for doing things off the clock (like attending graduation!) Contracts are supposed to start being handed out on Monday ... will be interesting to see how much more drama this will create. (As in those who've been doing the stupid silent protests may not be getting the raises they think they deserve...)
One of the teachers took a personal day on Friday, but hadn't mentioned that they were going to be gone to their students. So Friday afternoon I had 4 of that teacher's students come in to the lab visibly upset asking to print out cards/brochures for their teacher. The teacher asst. for whatever reason decided to share a text from the teacher stating that the teacher was past ABQ and on the way home ... This made the kids who are already pretty fragile about the whole teachers not staying for long thing, assume that this teacher had left for good without saying goodbye. Ugh. I tried to reassure them that their teacher would be back Monday, but I don't think they believed me.
Stock ... wow! I decided to sell enough shares to recoup my initial investment from 3 or so years ago (plus a bit more.) I paid $28.xx/share then, and sold for $95/share! At my income level (as far as I can figure) I won't owe any capital gains taxes. This money will eventually be used to pay off my car. For now though, I'm going to enjoy seeing a nice fat bank account. (Looking at my net worth increase in the last two weeks makes me have heart palpitations - an increase of nearly $30k!!)
NE .. I just can't say how happy I am. I'll be going to stay with him in NE for most of July. I found someone who will take Kari into their home while I'm gone. Will be driving out, and probably stopping in Colorado Springs again for the night. I know myself - no way could I drive 16 hours straight.
Any of you connected with me on FB can see a picture of NE and I. I don't want to post it here for a variety of reasons though.
Only one week of school left!! This coming week I won't have any media classes. I'll have my work cut out for me working on cleaning, sorting and a variety of projects. Not to mention preparing for summer school!
Ack! I'm just so happy.
(PS - I decided to not take the babysitting job I was emailed about. The thought of leaving here no later than 6:30 a.m. for two weeks plus all the driving ... made me exhausted just thinking about it. Plus it would have ended up maybe being $5/hr after taking out gas costs. Not worth it.)
Updates :)

Isn't the market terrific? Nearly triple value of initial investment in under 5 yrs is fabulous. Caution not to put/leave more than 5% of holdings in one stock or market segment. With car loan under 2%, would you consider splitting $$$ into EF, ROTH for example? Would you hold back 1/4 to buy a low fee/cost Mutual Fund at some point when the market has the inevitable big down day
How do you fund summer expenses? Teachers who are not paid again until the end of September often run thin. Do you plan to teach summer school as mentioned earlier in the year? How will you and NE split expenses for the month of July? Will you seek some type of PT work to fill the hours while NE is at work and incidentally help with costs?

I agree, the market is hard to believe! 90% of my one stock holdings are from an inheritance .. so I don't feel right taking it out of where the person originally put it. I did sell some of it and put it in a ROTH brokerage account and then repurchase the same stock (later I found out I could have just transferred the stock from one account to the other! Oh well.
One way or the other, I want to have my car paid off by my 38th birthday (Dec 15.) I'll probably keep stashing the extra monies I receive through whatever means until close to that time, while still paying double payments on the car. Then look at what I have and split it up between my ROTH, car and taxable account savings (need $3k to open the Vanguard acct I want.)
My salary is divided into 26 bi-weekly payments, so I get paid through the summer. Yes, I am still teaching summer school - that will probably net me around $900 after taxes are taken out. NE and I haven't discussed expenses yet for the July visit, but that is definitely something we will do before I go out. I have plenty to keep me busy while he's out working/sleeping - finish my elective classes, work on updating media center website, work on lesson plans, etc. I'm also looking into finding other school librarians there who might be able to show me how to do some advanced book repairs (something NOT taught in library school at all.) Plus I'll have plenty of books with me.
