The Cat that Plays Fetch

September 7th, 2011 at 02:12 am

Yes, you read that correctly. A cat that plays fetch. In fact, the cat in question is my 4 month old kitten Kari. I discovered this quite by accident Monday afternoon while sitting on my couch reading. She was bumping up against me wanting attention, so I wadded up a piece of paper that was nearby and threw it. Next thing I knew, she had brought the paper back to me and dropped it on the couch. So, incredulous, I threw it again. At least 25 throws later, she was tired and fell exhausted on her back.

I thought maybe it was just a fluke, but this afternoon when I got home I did a similar thing. She again went after the paper and brought it back to me. Only 5 or 6 times this time though. I wish I had video of it!

I'm very curious to see what all I can get her to do once I start clicker training her. Smile

Today was payday. Last paycheck basically went to finishing off my moving expenses, plus a bit of current expenses. Todays paycheck pretty much covers Septembers expenses. The next paycheck (18th) will go towards October's expenses, and then I'll be back on track. Once I have $2000 saved up again in my EF, I plan to restart my retirement savings. That should be right around October (2nd paycheck). Boy will that feel good!!

Today I let the girl who was such a royal butukus last week (switched names with other girl and was quite rude) be in charge of checking out books for her classmates. She was quite pleased, and said she had fun. Smile I don't know for sure if that is the right approach to take with her (7th grader) but I'm hoping that being given a responsibility like that will maybe begin to soften her attitude. She did a good job.

Tomorrow I have to go back into town so I can get my Synthroid. They were out of stock when I went to pick it up on Friday. :big eyes shock: That is very annoying, but I really can't go without it till Friday (when I'd normally do my shopping trip.) So I'm going to try to get what I need tomorrow. I may need to pick up more bananas on Saturday after church - hate to do that, but the bananas most likely wouldn't last a week and a half.

Most Siamese and siamese mixes naturally play fetch. Big Grin
My sister's cat likes to retrieve bottlecaps.

Could you sign up to have your Rxs mailed to you? Some bigger pharmacies are doing this.

    Payday = Big Grin

Ive never seen a cat that would fetch anything, so that is pretty cool.

So glad your new life is working out so well!! See? Good things really do come to those who wait...!!

My little guy, Jack, does the same thing. Fetches for HOURS! He loves paper. Be careful, Jack has been known to steal money from my purse because, to him, its just paper Smile

Not sure what that little girl did to be a royal buttkus, but your approach makes sense. Often kinds act out for attention or because they're bored, so giving her added responsibility may be just the thing.

My cat Luther fetches too. Not 20 times, but as much as 5 or 6 times. I don't think it's that unusual, although if you can get Kari to sit or roll over, now that would be impressive!

I didn't know that Siamese played fetch - my previous Siamese cat Monkey didn't (at least that I know of ...)

LF - The current prescription I have has one refill left. When I get my next prescription (for six refills) I will definitely be looking into the mailing program!! Or, perhaps the 90 day option.

PatientSaver - I'm planning on teaching her both of those (sit and roll over) Big Grin Of course teaching her to stay off the table when I'm eating, and to leave things be I don't want her messing with will come first. Big Grin
Thanks Ray Smile HH - I'll be careful about cash ... not that I ever have too much of it laying around. Big Grin

I've had many cats over the years play fetch - no siamese. My old tiger cat at my mom's house is 19 now. She still fetches sometimes! She has a hard time now. Deaf as anything and can't really tell where the toy went since she can't hear it. Lazy/old too. Smile Wanna know what her preferred toy is? MARBLES! Seriously. We always thought she would choke on them, but we couldn't stop her from stealing them. Gave up eventually. She'd cry with the marble in her mouth too. So cute.
