Sad News, Coupon News, and Craigslist

Last night I got a phone call from my brother. He married J Oct, 2006. For a little over a year now, they had been having some major problems. About 3 months ago, they officially separated. Yesterday they went to the courthouse and paid the fee, and are now officially divorced. Frown (No lawyers involved thankfully.)

My brother is really torn up about it. We talked for about an hour, and he was pretty choked up the whole time. I wish I could have been there to give him a hug. He told me that I've been a rock for him this past year, just because I've let him talk and not judged.

He is such a good kid. My heart hurts so much for him. So many of his adult dreams are now tarnished - marriage, owning a house ...

He'd been talking about maybe training to be a ski patrol person, but now that it is officially over, he might just head out to start nursing school. I really hope he can stop in Texas on his way there.

If you haven't heard yet, the Kroger stores in the Southwest are having Double Coupon Day on August 15. They usually only double up to 39 cents, but on the 15th, they're doubling up to $1. Only the first coupon for any multiple items will be doubled.

I listed my VHS/DVD player on craigslist. I've now had two people respond as being interested - but both want me to prove that it works. I understand why, but ... the only way I can think of is to have them come to my apartment. I really would rather not do that.

Does anyone have any ideas?

    to bad you dont know someone with a 13 inch tv you could barrow to take somewhere (the mall??) so you can plug it in.

    Around us we have coffee shops etc with wireless acess and often they have power outlet out in the open.

    I am so sorry for your brother. My dh's friend is visiting this weekend and went through something similar. A very short marriage but they had been together a long time and he just seems kind of "lost" to me. It doesn't help that his best friend (my dh) has the 2.2 kids and the white picket fence, etc. He kind of went MIA for a long while and I am glad they are hanging out more again. I think he just needed some time. Time will help your brother too.

    Yeah, he and J were together a total of 7 years. I told my brother that it would take time, and he'll need to go through the grieving process - it is kind of like a death, a death of a marriage.

    Sorry to hear that about your brother. Kind of strange that a relationship lasted 6 years before marriage, but only 1 afterwards? May I ask why?

    Sorry to hear about your brother. My brother has been in a rocky marriage and got married at the same time as your brother. He's out of the military a week and a half now and only time will tell to see if this works out. They've never really lived together due to the military. I know - it's so hard seeing your brother go through something like this!

    BA - Oct 29 would have been their 3rd wedding anniversary. There were some trust issues - J had presented herself in one way, made agreements about certain things that were critical in my brother's mind, and other things as well, but didn't follow through with them. He started counseling about a year ago to try and figure out a way to live with the situation, and eventually they both went into counseling. But my brother just couldn't get past certain issues.

    Thanks dmontgrey. I hope things work out better for your brother and his wife. It is really hard to see someone you love hurting so much.

    I know how much you adore your brother and it must be awful to hurt for him. :-( He SHOULD come visit his sister!! You can give him that hug then!

    Thanks Boo. Smile He called me on Friday and sounded SO much better. It was really good to hear him sounding happy again. He might just come to Texas. Smile If he does, I might post a picture or two. Big Grin
