New Year's Blerghh...

January 2nd, 2018 at 12:07 am

I started feeling run down about a week ago, but pushed myself through work til the end of the week. Of course, as soon as I didn't have to go to work, my body completely gave in to the yucks.

I had really been hoping to do a lot of cleaning and making ahead items for the freezer this weekend. About all I got done was clean the kitchen once after making the beefless stew (and then DH makes a new mess making one last rum cake ...ergh!)

I am probably going to take a sick day tomorrow as well. Hopefully my supervisor isn't going to think I'm just trying to extend the long weekend.

---
Yeah, about the "beefless" stew I made yesterday. Definitely not a repeater.

The cauliflower recipe I made from the How Not to Die cookbook though was a hit - especially the lemon tahini sauce.

---
DH really wanted to see the Peach Bowl.

I had bought a digital converter and antennae for our huge analog tv in case it was showing on a local broadcast channel.

It was showing on ESPN of course.

So ... I signed us up for the 7 day free trial of Sling - I checked off just about everything you can check off for. If I let it go past the free trial, it'd cost $118. Hah!!

Let's just say we are NOT impressed.

I couldn't get it to work on my DHs Chromebook. And then when I DID get it working on my Windows 10 computer, I couldn't record off the ESPN3 channel - so not only did DH have to wake up early to see it, I had to give up my computer for a few hours. (first world problems ...) DH also said the camera angle/video was really crappy. No play by play, commentary, etc.

Of course looking at the schedule, even with a zillion of channels, I'm reminded of why I haven't had cable in so many years. (of my own accord) There's just nothing on the majority of the time that's the least bit interesting.

At least on Netflix there's stuff like The Crown, When Calls the Heart, bunches and bunches of silly, predictable Christmas movies .... etc. I could go to Amazon Prime and find stuff to watch there too I'm sure if I ever ran out of things on Netflix.

Or you know ... work on reading the next book on my 52 books for 2018!

Or, gasp! do some housework!

---
Poor DH is having to go out delivering pizza's tonight. The low is supposed to be around -8 F. He won't wear a scarf because it gets in his way, nor will he wear a stocking cap ... He will at least wear gloves sometimes.

I hope people are generous tippers tonight - both due to the cold nobody wants to venture out in, and due to the outcome of the Peach Bowl game today. Smile

Accomplishments:
1st book of 2018 read - Treasured Grace (vol. 1)
2nd book of 2018 started - Beloved Hope (vol. 2)

No spending.

I hope you feel better soon! I've have heard of a lot of people getting ill in the last couple weeks. Peach Bowl was fantastic!! Sorry your setup didn't work out. We do have cable now, but sure would like to get rid of it soon.

Thanks CCF! Yeah, it sounded like it was a real nail biter - my DH was doing lots of exclamations. Smile I was in the other room reading.

I hope you are feeling better. Do you get regular blood work to confirm your body functions are all operating at prime. If you are disappointed in how a meal turns out, possibly DH prefers more strongly flavored foods. I recall you celebrate occasions with Chinese/American style foods. It's remarkably easy to create a red, Chinese sauce, easily stored in a small sized glass jar to spoon out as needed.
In a mid sized pot ,mix together1/2 C ketchup, 3/4 C brown sugar or b/sugar [molasses substitute if preferred], 1 onion diced, 1/2 C vinegar, 1/3 C water, 2 T Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 t chili powder, S & P to taste. cook to thicken. Store well frozen in a Zip, Plast Box
Ladle out vegetables into youf stew incarnation
