Swagbucks CC, Roadtrip suggestions?

May 7th, 2016 at 03:40 pm

I got a letter in the mail this week which made me very sad. As of June 8, the rewards card for Swagbucks will stop.

I'll probably go for the Citi cashback 2% card as a replacement - which in reality is a better deal. Although I'll look for good cash back cards first - as I have the feeling we'll have plenty of expenses the first few months in our home. Smile

----
So ... this will be the first really long roadtrip DH and I will have taken together in the same vehicle. When I moved from NM, DH drove the truck and I drove my car.

The longest roadtrip we've been on was about 3 hours. This one is going to be around 6 or 7 hours one way.

Normally on a roadtrip I'd read or snooze or ... whatever (when not driving). That seems kind of rude when it's just two people though.

I found a few joke books on Amazon (free) and a book of good questions for couples to discuss together.

Beyond that .. the A to z game? Slug bug sighting? ????

Any suggestions of good books to read out loud? DH gets bored really easily

    Maybe some interesting podcasts?

Any suggestions? (And yes, that would be a good idea!)

DH is into animals, car / home audio, pranks, etc. I'd like something that is kind of funny / interesting tidbits about life. Oh - DH really likes John Tesh - maybe he does a podcast that could be downloaded?

We do podcasts and borrow audio books from the library. Whatever you think he might be interested in?

We enjoy Judge John Hodgman (is hit or miss, but download a few and skip the boring ones). & Thrilling Adventure Hour.

After much trial and error, my partner and I found comedy CDs (that we get from the library) to be the best thing to pass the time in the car. We listened to Jim Gaffigan's "Obsessed" and we almost had to pull over, my partner was laughing so hard he was crying.

This American Life is my favorite podcast. I also like another one that is a quiz show. I can't remember the name offhand and my kindle is dead right now.

Sorry my computer choses to drop sentences into cyberspace. Inmy experience, it's cost effective to spend on a consult with a qualified decorator.

Off topic...least invasive weed killers are boiling hot water, a small amount of vinegar, 3rd small, controlled sprinkle of 20 Mule Team Borax on offending weed or unwanted growth. Suggest starting with quality garden gloves and creating a compost 'bin' whose space I recall was assigned in the back. It takes a bit of work initially but it saves $$$ makes excellent dressing/fertilizer and eliminates back breaking work of bagging and hauling clippings/cuttings to the curb for pick up..Might save $ in trash fees depending on local billing.

It feels like a money pit 1st year for outdoor equipment and supplies. Usually quality brand used hand tools are as effective as new. Watch more estate sales, seniors down sizing yard sales. Hope you'll try growing something your 1st year like green beans, lettuce and grape type tomatoes in a pot. So satisfying to harvest.

Because snafu is always right, I completely agree. I've bought almost all our gardening stuff at estate and moving sales. Just a few weeks ago I wanted some large terra cotta pots--and they were $17 at the garden center. I bought 2/$1 at a sale. Rakes, lawnmowers, all of that. If you use FB lists, you can always have an "In search of" ISO listing.

Thanks Laura S - my phone is full now, so I'll have to keep that for another time.

Thanks Snafu/MEC - I definitely plan on trying to get as many things as possible from FB garage sales, etc. I'm planning on at least $1 - $1500 for lawn/yard/garden equipment/supplies and another $500 or so for inside the house to get started. Once we get into the house, we'll sit down and make a list of everything we need/want to do/buy and then prioritize it out.

Since you will be moving to your new home later this month, you will need to pack up and touch every item. I don't know if you are familiar with the book 'Sparks Joy' or the Kon Marie views on home management but she is doing some USA podcasts.

I followed her instruction and completed the process about a year ago. I'm astounded that it has stayed so tidy with so little effort. Everyone wants to participate in keeping things tidy [company ready]. What has been most remarkable has been the reduction in spending. I've always swept money remaining in our regular account to savings at the end of each month. Only when I did the income tax did I fully realize the incredible sum that accumulated so silently in savings. I'm not motivated to go shopping, we don't buy on impulse...so I thought. Now we buy very little that isn't 'disposable' like groceries, utilities, etc. Due to medical issues I haven't been ab;e to travel this year...yet. Hope to get off these serious RX in August
