I Adore the Bed and Breakfast!!

January 23rd, 2016 at 01:03 am

Last night Mr FT and I visited the bed and breakfast I was thinking about using for our ceremony/reception.

I seriously fell in love with it! I'm an old fashioned gal in many ways, and sometimes think I would have enjoyed living at the turn of the century. (Well .. not all things about that time.)

This place was built in 1910 and has a very Victorian feel to it. Mr FT wasn't impressed with the quality of maintenance, but we're not going to live there - just spend a night and use it for our wedding stuff. Smile

Here is the amazing part! By renting 6 rooms Saturday night we will have use of the house for 24 hours essentially.

We can have our rehearsal dinner / ceremony / reception all in the same place!

Also, there will be VERY little need for any decorations! Maybe some for the reception - but not much.

The cost of rental includes the owner / wedding coordinator being there for the entire event - moving chairs, and doing all needed cleanup outside of food.

The cost (excluding rooms)? $245. Rooms range from $89 to $119 each. If all 6 rooms aren't rented, we would have to cover that cost, but I feel pretty certain we'll use all of them. Even if we had to cover one - that would bring it up to around $345 (+the cost of our room). Which I still think is a steal for what we're getting.

I have a two week hold on it right now because I'm still waiting to hear back from my brother, and I also need to make sure that my grandma can handle a set of stairs.

I did take a few pictures, but Mr FT was waiting in the car (his back started hurting) so I don't know how great they turned out.

Question! What songs did you have for your wedding ceremony?

Here are the pictures:

The entryway (where we'd have our guestbook)

The staircase I'll walk down.

The area I'll stand in front of to become Mrs. FT Smile

The B&B is lovely; you've made a great choice. I think the price is very reasonable. Your wedding is going to be fabulous. Smile
I had Phil Collins' "Groovy Kind of Love" and Bryan Adams' "Heaven" in my wedding ceremony.

What are you thinking for flowers? I think dark red roses and white flowers of whatever sort would be nice.

    Thanks Smile
Petunia - I haven't quite figured out flowers yet. I'm really thinking much won't be needed - the house itself I think is a lot of "decoration." I will do some kind of a bouquet, but not sure just yet what.

This place reminds me a lot of the house I work out of every day. It is over 100 years old and was originally the home of my city's mayor. I will have to take some pics and post them.

    Please do Petunia!

This place was built by a banker who was 70 years old at the time! It originally had a huge ballroom on the third floor (now made into three rooms.)

We had Can You Feel the Love Tonight by Elton John from the Lion King as it was just so beautiful and seeing the trailer for that movie and then later that movie coincided with some epic days in our relationship. Also, Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and Pachelbel's Canon in D.

Ooooh, can't go wrong with Beethoven (I've heard those pieces used for wedding processions). We just did the traditional wedding march. & my sister sang "From This Moment On", Shania Twain.

Which reminds me, my sister got married at a B&B. I had totally forgotten. It was really beautiful - when she lived in the south.

That's beautiful and just perfect for the size wedding you are having. I agree you don't need extra decorations. I think we had Edelweiss played as we (my parents and I) walked down the aisle.

I agre, you don't need any decorations. I am an Elvis fan, "Can't help falling in love with you" is one of my favorite wedding songs.

We didn't have a dance or anything at our reception (it was more like a regular party), but one of my friends used Marvin Gaye's "So in Love With You," and I felt like I'd never realized what a sweet, beautiful song it was before then.

P.S. First dance was Bob Dylan "Make You Feel My Love". I thought that was really original (a newer song at the time), but I guess it's not so unique any more.

Wow, what a great idea. Doing this kind of thing, a B&B, never occurred to me. You and your white gown will look really great coming down those stairs so dark so there'll be a big contrast...like Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind!

I think this is such a great idea..like you said, you don't have to travel from one venue to the other from wedding to reception to spending the night somewhere and you have the place to yourselves.

Thank you everyone for the songs, etc. Smile Lots of great ones mentioned, but I've got to say that my eyebrows perked up at Edelweiss! I'll have to look at the lyrics again, but if it's the song I'm thinking of from Sound of Music - never would have thought of it! But love it!

Ok, it IS the song I thought it was. I think I just picked out my entrance song! Big Grin My brother is going to sing Broken Roads by Rascal Flatts (probably during the unity ceremony) and then I just need to figure out the exit song. Sweet!!

Nice that you are figuring things out. Our version of Edelweiss was just instrumental. The words are good of course, but we didn't hire anyone to sing. Smile And I do know the Broken Roads song...love that one!!

CCF - Mr FT is going to set up a couple of his speakers and CD player - the only song we'll have that's sung is the one my brother is doing. I don't think I'd have the words version - but the idea of the song still is fitting I think. Smile

Beautiful B&B!! For our processional we had everyone walk out to a cover of Steve Winwood's "Higher Love" by James Vincent McMorrow. It's really slow and pretty - and then after the big kiss we walked out to the original version Smile
