Met with a Cleaner

September 12th, 2015 at 02:18 am

This afternoon I met with a lady who is going to do the cleaning I need done. She suggested I get something called Draincare to help get rid of the future possible clogs.

She's probably going to come on Monday. I agreed to pay her $100 (the bathroom with the litter mess was a bit worse than I'd realized.)

I need to figure out a better solution for keeping the litter off the floor. I have tried the hooded boxes before, but really didn't like them (neither did my cat(s).) I've also tried a variety of litter mats ...

This is something I'll deal with once my mom is gone though.

I bought the draincare stuff, some lightbulbs, replacement liner things for the stove burners, and ... some chocolate.

This weekend I'm going to focus on doing more decluttering and getting my car cleaned out.

I made it 3 days with no spending so far this month ...

This month's totals are going to be so disastrous. At least I have a good slush fund to handle it without missing a beat. I just don't like actually *using* the slush fund.

I don't find that the hooded boxes make any less mess than the regular ones. Cat litter is just a pain all around. My preferred solution has been to use an old towel. You can shake the little stray bits back in the box and then toss the towel into the wash each week.

My 3 cats hated the hooded boxes. I now use what our local pet shelter uses....tall storage containers on carpet remnants. Litter outside the box, for some reason is minimal and I can shake out the carpet to get any litter than falls from the paws.

    Good luck on everything!

Lirpalynn - I found that was an issue too with the hooded box

Stephanie - that is actually an option I'm considering. I just need to figure out how I'd cut the needed holes on the sides (entrance/exit)

Getting a larger litter box helps. I got mine at PetSmart. It's taller and wider than a regular box; didn't have to alter it any.

CB - I'm planning on looking at Petco and Pet Smart, see what options they have. I'm also looking on Amazon (since I have a $105 balance burning a hole in my pocket there ...)

I hardly ever have drainage clogs, and trust me I'm not the world's greatest housekeeper.. Like CB was saying about brushing your hair before getting into the shower - I do that. Not even to avoid clogging but because my hair is always super knotted so it makes shampooing easier! Also I do try to clean it weekly (my version of cleaning is to spray a few areas and wipe the drain hole, which removes some hairs). Do you have to pay the plumber bill?

My husband always wants to get a litter mat, but I don't think they work. I say vacuum and sweep are the best methods. A pain yes, but done with some frequency it isn't that big of a job. In fact, it may take less time than scooping! Sometimes, I just sweep it up and dump it back in. I agree that covered litter boxes don't in anyway help with litter coming out. It sticks to their feet, so it comes out with them. Smile A hand vacuum might seem easier to have nearby to suck up litter.

Did you see this tub drain cover for hair? It gets pretty good reviews: http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Silicone-Protector-Pop-Up-Regular/dp/B00OCEBMFM/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

VS - No, I only have to pay it if it happens again. My tub was pretty clean before the clog got so bad (that I had standing water in the tub for days at a time - when it got to the point that it just wasn't draining at all ... that's when I called my property manager.)

CCF - I think that is the drain cover I got! It seems to be working so far (caught my hair this morning at least!)

I'm pretty good about scooping ... need to get better with the sweeping bit. (I've done that - sweep it up and dump it in. Smile ) A hand vacuum isn't a bad idea really. My current vacuum is oh about 18? years old or so ... bought right out of college. I don't use it much.

I may end up getting one for my daughter's shower. She has long hair and I know it will accumulate at some point!

    Probably a good idea!

The drain cover sounds like a good idea. I also every so often run baking soda and vinegar in our drains and follow with hot water to keep the soap building up from being really bad.

This is the only thing I've ever found to help - and I've tried EVERYTHING. This is a miracle.

I'm living at Mom's house right now and she has SIX cats. Yes, six. We have 4 litter boxes, and they're all the large covered ones. We scoop every other day, and sweep up the litter on the floor (there's a lot). I wish there was a better way! I've considered trying out the automatic boxes but most of our cats are weenies, so I don't think they'd like the noise very much.
