And One More - August Trip Thinking

I'm thinking of going to Des Moines, IA for a few days in August. Possibly spend a day at Adventureland (found a $4 discount coupon for August), then spend a day or so checking out old houses I lived in in the area. Maybe another day doing other stuff in the area.

I haven't been there since 1986?? So if anyone has any ideas of interesting things/places there, or nearby, I'd love to hear it!

I checked hotel prices in the area, and am finding run down places for $60+. Checked AirBnb and found a nice looking place for $45. Will need to do some more looking on that front.

I might end up going somewhere totally different though ... just not quite sure where yet.

    Laura, email me/message me before you book a hotel. I can attempt to tell you about areas of town. The art museum is very nice and free, as is the captiol building, and the state historical society. The botanical garden is nice, too. The newest mall area is in West Des Moines: Jordan Creek Mall. Adventureland is pretty fun, and most hotels really close by would be fine. We really like a little french restaurant called La Mie for breakfast or lunch, not too far from art museum. We also like Z'mariks, and Palmer's Deli.

    Oh, and not to be missed is Living History Farms!! It's at least a full day, but could be done in half day if you keep moving. Smile Our family was in DSM from 2006 to 2012. Would move back in a nano second! If I think of anything else, I'll private message you. Smile

    I think I went to Living History Farms on a school trip. I remember loving it. Smile That definitely would make my list of things to do. Smile The art museum also sounds good. Smile La Mie sounds yummy Smile
    Maybe one day - Adventure Land, one day - Living History Farms and one day - revisiting old places/memories. Sounds like fun!

    I will definitely contact you before I reserve a hotel or decide for sure on an AirBNB location. Thanks!
