A bit more this and that

October 16th, 2014 at 03:52 am

So I am really ticked at PayPal right now. I made an eBay sale Saturday night and tried printing postage on Monday - no go. Kept getting an error message. Tried again on Tuesday - found out that my "limited" account now includes no money being withdrawn at all. So I have almost $200 in PayPal being held hostage. (Bubblews payments, Pinecone, etc.)

I ended up mailing the package first class postage - PO was closed by the time I got there Tuesday night and that was all the automated machine would let me do. Ugh! Hopefully this won't ruin my perfect rating!

Tomorrow is payday, and since no deductions are coming out of it (other than taxes) I guess it counts as the extra paycheck.

So ... I haven't had the energy to research it out totally yet, but I think I'm going to use it to buy the couch, the Sprint iPhone (to switch to Ting), and a simple printer (for coupons, etc) That'll use most of it - but once I have my phone set up, then I can sell my current iPhone and that will net me a little cash. That I'll put into my general savings.

I might still change my mind - especially about the phone. I know I'll save money switching to Ting, it's just the initial outlay for the phone that is making me hesitate.

In case you're interested, here are some Bubble posts I wrote recently about Paypal and life in general.

Yikes, I sure don't like the sound of you not being able to get to your money! Have you tried to call to understand what is up?

Not yet. I'm waiting til I think I can call without getting too ... Emotional. Maybe by Friday I'll have calmed down about it.

Won't ting reimburse you for the cost of the new phone? I thought they did that now. I'll have to look that up tomorrow.

Don't forget to get a referral credit (I know you probably won't). There's a credit for swapping to a compatible phone: https://ting.com/trade Plus, they are having some sales right now on iPhones. They may be all used, but worth a look. (The couple that I noticed were used or refurbished).

MM - I have already used Ting in the past, so I wouldn't be able to do a referral credit for anyone. I actually have one available from someone using my link a couple years ago when I was testing it with an Android phone.

I think the credit is only if you switch like for like. I'm thinking of upgrading to the 5 from my 4S. Mainly so I don't have to upgrade phones for a long time. I'll have to see what the sales are on iPhones.

I believe the referral credit is for activating a new device (or can be used to purchase a device from Ting). So make sure to use a referral credit no matter what you do on Ting. Just in case it will work.

You can get credit for trading any device from non-Ting to Ting. You just have to sell old device on Glyde to get the credit.

I have not had that kind of problem with PayPal, but I have to say, I find their redesigned website hard to use and not very attractive.

MM - When I signed up with Ting I used a referral from someone here - can't remember who. It got me $50 off the Sprint Android phone I bought to test out Ting. I'd be surprised if they gave me another credit for activating a new device.

I do have a referral credit of $25 from someone who used my link. I'll put that towards my phone if I can. I need to do some looking into how to purchase my phone and how to get the matching funds, etc. from Ting/Glyde.

CB - Yeah, I don't care for their website either.
