Slipping And Sliding OUCH!

February 22nd, 2010 at 06:37 pm

So yesterday afternoon I decided it was time to do some laundry. The weather had started to turn a bit cooler, so I was wearing my slipper socks to keep my feet warm.

As I walked down the carpeted stairs, some clothes fell out of my laundry bag. I turned and bent to pick them up. Next thing I knew I had my tailbone hitting a stair HARD and slid down a couple of steps until the heel of my right foot stopped my descent.

As of now, the heel/ankle are manageable, as long as I walk on my forefoot - especially when going up and down stairs. The tailbone however is *majorly* uncomfortable when sitting (like, driving!) or even when laying down (like, sleeping!)

I'm hoping I just bruised my tailbone/ankle and it will heal in a few days. I don't want to even think about how much it might cost to get x-rays of my tailbone ...

Moral of the story: Pay attention when walking down stairs!

Ouchies! DD slipped on her carpeted stairs recently while carrying her niece. While protecting niece, DD sat down really hard! She was quite sore in the tailbone area for several days. Hope you recover quickly!

Please be careful. I will relate an awful story, but one that has stuck with me enough to make me VERY careful walking down stairs. I used an attorney to do my house closing 15 years ago. When I decided to refinance a few years after that, I called the same attorney. It was a father/son practice, and my attorney was the son. The woman answering the phone had to explain to me that my attorney fell down a flight of stairs, broke his neck and died. Freak accident, but it was so upsetting to me that I have not forgotten it, especially when I'm walking down stairs.

That is scary. Glad it was just my tailbone/ankle.

Do you have a donut to sit on? If not you can make one by rolling up a towel and shape it into a circle. I mention this because my son bruised his tailbone 5 weeks ago and that's what the physiotherapist recommended. I was told that even if the tailbone was broken there isn't much one can do to fix it any faster.

Oohhh. That's how I broke my ankle, unmindfulness on the stairs. Well, I guess I can be glad that I didn't break my neck! And I'm glad, Laura, that your injury is no worse than it is.

my best friend broke her tailbone riding a tyre attached to a rope behind a speedboat (yup!)
the x ray showed her tailbone was COMPLETELY severed, but using a donut shaped pillow (yes... the type people use for heamorroids...:P) for a few months, it healed. the dr said if it didn't heal they do surgery to remove it :O

Wow - That's kind of what I figured - even if it is broken or fractured, etc., the only thing for it is time. I don't have a donut, but will roll up a towel like you suggested. Great idea! Thanks!

    Thanks NJDebbie

CB, Thanks. Ouch! Breaking your ankle!

    whitestripe, completely severed? Triple ouch!
