Where I live they have time Warner cable for Internet. I connect to it via a netgear wireless device. The best signal strength I get is 60%.
I can't play netflix on it, nor can I watch most YouTube videos. That's annoying, but I can live with it.
What I can't live with anymore is the connection constantly going down. Wednesday night I was trying to finish up my reference list for my research paper. There were some items I had a question on and needed my desktop - the iPhone wasn't easily able to do the needed search. The net kept going down. Finally got fed up and called my dad and walked him through finding the info for me.
Tonight it stopped working at 6:15 and still isn't working at 7:20.
Considering that I'm only here till May, I really hate to spend much money on getting the Internet working.
They have a modem I could plug into, but it is Far away.
Any ideas???
Internet woes - advice?

The library (our library has high speed internet) and working as far ahead as possible?
We're on dial-up (with a long cord to plug into the phone line) . . . I'm no help.

Lizajane,
going to the library would work sometimes, but I can't search for any of the scholarly journals there that I have to read for classes - some cookie problem. I'm missing the power cord for my netbook - so ....
Disneysteve,
it is part of my rent. I figured out last night that I am actually connected, but it's not finding my network address - I had that problem when I first moved in, but resolved it by re entering the access code. I tried that again , and no can do.
I can do a lot on my iPhone, but some things are not possible to do - plus typing on it's keyboard takes 5 times as long.
Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can find a long USB or Ethernet cord and hopefully that'll work. If not, I'm not sure what to do.

You should be easily (and inexpensively) able to get a replacement power cord for the netbook. I had to replace my laptop power cord a couple of years ago. I got mine at CompUSA (now out of business) and I think it was only about $30.

Of course while my landlady was taping down the cord that had to snake across the front entryway, she was making comments under her breath about not being able to have company over because they'd trip over it!!! Ugh! It's not like I didn't try other avenues!!

Either settings or perhaps even signal strength. Have you had problems with it in the past? If so, you may have to replace. If not, it could either be settings and location.
Well, either way, so long as it's "fixed", I guess that's that.
