I may have goofed

January 22nd, 2009 at 12:23 am

Um . . do you remember my post on Friday about my second gym paycheck bouncing and how mad I was about it? I wrote E kind of a brusque note letting him know I wasn't happy about the situation - I was very formal in my writing, not my usual style. I think he got the picture that I was really upset.

So, today I got an email from him telling me that I wasn't needed to open the gym for the next two Friday mornings, but still needed for closing. Hmmm ... There's only two reasons I can think of for that - he's decided to open later or he's replaced me with someone else.

I have been considering quitting altogether before all of this happened. It's been difficult not having my Friday afternoons to get errands done before the weekend.

What do y'all think? If I did quit, that would be the end of my free membership - but I do have plenty of exercise equipment at home that I could use. It would also be the loss of about $100/mo -- but I could probably make that up via ChaCha or other resources.

If I did quit, then I also wouldn't have any need for using Chase anymore, since the main reason I opened my account there was to deposit the gym checks.

I stayed home sick again today. Felt a bit better than yesterday, but still not good enough to go into work. Ugh.

I don't know, but I think you can find other sources to make $100. I don't like that your check bounced (it spells financial trouble).

Yes, I agree. I do think they are in trouble financially. I really don't know how they're keeping their doors open as it is.

I'm not the only person who's had more than one bounced check from them.

Maybe he knows he won't have enough cash to pay you...therefore he's not having you work those hours.

There are other gyms and other ways to make money. Listen to your instincts.

You know, that is an interesting idea.

Maybe he's realized that I'm not willing to finance the business with my hours (as another employee who works around 30 hrs a week feels like he does - he's kept up to THREE paychecks at a time because the money wasn't there and he didn't want to go through the hassle of a bounced check) and so he's only going to have me work hours he's sure he can actually pay.

I'm starting to think that maybe my working at the gym in the first place wasn't really a good idea. E is a really good person, but once you bring money into any kind of a friendship, there is the potential for hurt feelings.

I think you should get out now! The worry of each check bouncing is definately not worth it! You should try to make that money up somewhere else that you know won't be a hassle!

I have a different viewpoint. How much is the gym membership? If you are getting that free and only working a day a week, isn't it worth it? I realize you aren't bringing in extra cash but you would have time to do other things that could.
I agree with Creditcardfree...listen to your body!
